Impact Fighting Championships Looks For An "Uprising" Down Under

The star power is in force for Impact Fighting Championship’s latest event “The Uprising 2”. This is the second installment of the "Uprising" event in Australia. The first of which showcased names like Josh Barnett, Jeff Monson, and Karo Parisyan.

There are many different flavors of mixed martial artists competing on this upcoming card for The IFC. Some legends, some modern day stars, and a glimpse of the future with regard to local favorites.

The card is to be held Saturday July 17 in Sydney Australia. In their corner of the world, MMA fans in the outback are a force to be reckoned with. That much was apparent with the enormous success the UFC had on their first event in Australia.

Headlining the event are two former powerhouses who’s careers date back to the pioneering days of modern mixed martial arts. Former UFC champion and Hall of Famer Ken Shamrock will square of UFC and Pride veteran Pedro Rizzo.

There was a time when these guys were the cream of the crop in the UFC. Today, they find themselves in the twilight of their careers looking to dance one more time for fight fans down under.

While they may not be the fighters they once were they bring a certain level of nostalgia to an event that showcases much more than just these two legends. The IFC is capitalizing on the star power of many fighters who may not be at the top of the MMA food chain, but still have plenty of fight left.

While there are many opinions about vets continuing to compete beyond their glory days, the fan has to appreciate their willingness to continue pushing themselves with a passion to compete for MMA enthusiast’s entertainment.

In the co-main event, former UFC middleweight contender Paul Daley will look to further his MMA career as he enters the cage with Pride veteran Daniel Acacio. Both fighters have deep resumes.

This will mark Daley’s return to the game following his ill advised late strike after the bell on Josh Koscheck at UFC 113. He was almost immediately released and is openly regretful of his actions.

This fight marks the first step to getting his extremely promising MMA career back on track. Acacio will be looking to put a stop to any such ideas.

Other notable names competing include Bob Sapp, Jesse Taylor, and a match between Denis Kang and Paulo Filho.

For the locals, two fan favorites and highly revered heavyweights will look to bring the house down for their loyal followers.

In a bout that is Australian for heavyweight, Aussie kickboxing legend Peter Graham is squaring off with the No. 1 ranked Aussie heavyweight Jim Yorke. Both are well known down there and surely the fans will rally behind this fight.

With a wide array of skill levels and a broad spectrum of star power, The IFC is looking to showcase something for everyone. They offer legends, modern day stars, and local fan favorites.

All of this is obviously taking place in the outback but for those who may take in interest in the event that can’t make half way across the world, no worries mate. The event will be shown in the United States on pay per view with most major networks.

So throw some shrimp on the barbie, crack open a Fosters and catch some fights.

All in all, it’s a quality event for a true fight fan that doesn't get hung up on name brand mainstream MMA. It doesn't have to say UFC or Strikeforce to be good mma. A fight is a fight, and if you enjoy a good fight check out this card.

It shouldn't disappoint.
