mixed martial arts news
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Ronda Rousey, a Strikeforce female contender, is one to exercise that right more than other at times. In a recent interview with MMA.tv, Rousey expressed how GSP is bad for MMA and needs to step aside and let Nick Diaz kick his ass.
The welterweight kingpin Georges St. Pierre is on the side lines due to injury and it seems everyone has forgotten along with Rousey how much of an impact GSP has on MMA today.
For a fighter like Rousey who has only fought four times in her Pro career and talked her way into a title shot with Miesha Tate it seems farfetched that she would criticize one of the most dominant champions in the UFC and arguably one of the best mixed martial artists to have graced the Octagon.
Looking at the big picture is probably just Rousey sticking up for her buddy Nick Diaz, who she has trained with, who would have been fighting GSP instead of Carlos Condit had the injury not occurred.
Regardless, it may be true GSP employs a new tactic of attack that has lead to only 2 finishes in his last 7, but he hasn’t been put in danger and instead has been dominant throughout his current reign as champ; something Rousey hasn’t taken to consideration.
GSP is also one of the biggest stars in the UFC and has a huge following. Without a doubt if GSP fought on Fox it would garner record breaking ratings.
Another thing that is being overlooked here is GSP is a bad match up for either Condit or Diaz and surely GSP will be a heavy favorite once he fights the winner on the February 4th match between Condit and Diaz.
As GSP has the boxing to match Nick Diaz’s boxing and can get the fight to the ground and avoid Diaz submissions. As for Condit, GSP is an expert on changing levels and Condit would repeatedly be put on the ground offering no offense to GSP.
People like Rousey may be making assumptions of the welterweight kingpin due to his last fight with Shields but he fought through the fight with an eyeball filling up with blood; that can affect anybodies performance and that is something many fighters wouldn’t answer the bell for.
Rousey should be more grateful to a man who has paved the way for up and coming fighters like herself by bringing in a huge fan base from Canada and helped grow MMA into what it is today. GSP has been fighting in the UFC since 2004 and his fights have been great.
People like to kick a person when they are down, but GSP will remind everyone why he is touted as one of the greatest of all time when he makes his return this year. GSP will silence many critics and show why no one man at welterweight will be taking his undisputed welterweight championship belt away from him.
